What is Azure DevOps MCP Server?

A community-built Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI assistants like Claude to interact with Azure DevOps resources (cloud and on-premises) through a standardized set of tools. It supports Azure DevOps Server (on-prem) for older versions that may not work with Microsoft's official server, as well as Azure DevOps Services (cloud).

How to use Azure DevOps MCP Server?

Install via npx (npx -y @tiberriver256/mcp-server-azure-devops) or run from source. Configure authentication with a Personal Access Token (PAT), Azure Identity, or Azure CLI. Set the required environment variable AZURE_DEVOPS_ORG_URL (organization URL or Server collection URL) and, optionally, AZURE_DEVOPS_DEFAULT_PROJECT. Integrate with Claude Desktop or Cursor AI by adding a JSON configuration block in your MCP settings file.
