概要

What is LocalCan?

LocalCan is an ngrok alternative for developers: Public URLs (tunnels), .local domains, automatic HTTPS, and a built-in traffic inspector. It ships as a desktop app for Mac and Windows and as a CLI for every platform. Its MCP server is built into the localcan binary and runs over stdio.

What can an AI agent do with it?

Twenty tools in four groups:

  • Traffic: turn capture on, list recent HTTP exchanges (filter by host, method, or status), and export one as Markdown, cURL, HAR, HTTP, or JSON, so the agent can read the request a failing webhook actually sent.
  • Public URLs: expose a local port on a new Public URL, then list, pause, resume, or remove URLs.
  • Snapshots: publish a folder as a static Snapshot that stays online at the same URL while your machine is off.
  • Access control: password-protect a shared URL, check its status, or clear protection.

How to use it

  1. Install LocalCan: download the app at localcan.com/download (Mac and Windows) or curl -fsSL https://localcan.com/install.sh | sh (Linux).
  2. Register the server with your MCP host, for example: claude mcp add --scope user localcan -- localcan mcp
  3. Ask things like "A webhook just failed in LocalCan. Find it and explain why."

Setup guides for Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code, Windsurf, Codex, and Zed: documentation.

Safe by default

Sensitive headers (Authorization, cookies, API keys) are redacted from tool responses. Write tools are off until you enable them with localcan mcp access read_write.
