What is DB Planner

DB Planner is a collaborative database design tool. You write schemas in DBML or import SQL dumps (PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQL Server), sketch diagrams in Mermaid, and lay both out on a shared board that renders relationships, notes and drawings in real time.

What the MCP server does

The server is built into the DB Planner API, so there is nothing to install or run. Add the URL to your client, sign in once in the browser, and your agent can:

• Read organizations, projects, documents and boards, and render the board to a PNG so the model can look at a layout rather than infer it from coordinates.
• Edit schemas and diagrams, create and reorder documents, and recolor tables.
• Lay out the board with partial deltas that merge safely with collaborators' changes, draw arrows and marker strokes, and place images.
• Publish a project to the public template marketplace, or copy a published template into a workspace.

Every tool carries annotations, a described parameter list and an output schema, so clients can run reads without confirmation prompts and read structured results instead of parsing text.

Authentication

OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration. Read and write are separate scopes (dbplanner:read, dbplanner:write) chosen on the consent screen and enforced on the server, so a read-only connection is a real guarantee. No API key or password is stored in the client.
