概览

What is Tally MCP Server by CData?

The Tally MCP Server by CData is a read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows LLMs like Claude Desktop to query live Tally data using natural language. It wraps the CData JDBC Driver for Tally, which exposes Tally data as relational SQL models, and provides a simple MCP interface so no SQL is required.

How to use Tally MCP Server by CData?

Clone the repository, build the JAR with mvn clean install, download and license the CData JDBC Driver for Tally, and create a .prp configuration file with the driver path, driver class, and JDBC connection string. Then add the server to your client’s MCP configuration (e.g., claude_desktop_config.json) or run it directly with java -jar CDataMCP-jar-with-dependencies.jar <path>.prp. The server uses stdio transport and works only with clients on the same machine.

Key features of Tally MCP Server by CData

  • Read-only access to live Tally data through natural language queries
  • Provides three tools: {servername}_get_tables, {servername}_get_columns, {servername}_run_query
  • Built on the CData JDBC Driver for Tally (requires separate installation and license)
  • Supports any data source that the CData JDBC Driver connects to (see full list in README)
  • Uses stdio transport; runs on the same machine as the client

Use cases of Tally MCP Server by CData

  • Ask an LLM to analyze correlations between opportunities and account industry
  • Retrieve the number of open tickets in a specific project
  • Query calendar events for the current day using plain language

常见问题

1

Is the Tally MCP Server by CData read-only?

Yes, it is explicitly built as a read-only MCP server. For full read, write, update, delete, and action capabilities, CData offers a free beta MCP Server for Tally.

2

What are the system requirements?

You need Java, Maven (to build), and the CData JDBC Driver for Tally installed and licensed on the same machine as the client.

3

How do I configure the connection to Tally?

Create a `.prp` file with `Prefix`, `ServerName`, `ServerVersion`, `DriverPath`, `DriverClass`, `JdbcUrl`, and optionally `Tables`. Use the connection string utility provided by the JDBC driver to obtain the correct `JdbcUrl`.

4

Can the server be used with remote clients?

No. The server uses `stdio` transport, so it can only be used with clients that run on the same machine as the server.

5

Is there a version with write capabilities?

Yes, CData offers a free beta MCP Server for Tally that supports full create, read, update, delete, and action capabilities, with a simplified setup.
