What is atbridge?

atbridge is a local MCP server for Thunderbird. It gives any MCP-compatible AI client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, JetBrains, Antigravity, …) read and write access to your email, calendars, contacts, notes, and tasks — across every account and provider Thunderbird supports. It talks to your running Thunderbird on your own machine, so nothing is proxied through a cloud and no mail credentials ever leave your computer.

Tools

Five domains, with full schemas in the MCP tool reference:

• Mail — list, search, read, send, reply, forward, move, delete, drafts, attachments, folders, branded HTML compose.
• Calendar — list/search/create/update events, RSVP, free-slot finding, cross-calendar clash detection.
• Contacts — search, read, create, update; address books & mailing lists.
• Notes — a local markdown workspace (list / read / save / update / move).
• Tasks — list, create, complete, update. Plus AI / Branded Email (turn plain content into a branded HTML email) and system tools (accounts, license, updates).

🔒 Safe by default: reads are enabled out of the box; write tools are gated behind ATBRIDGE_ALLOW_WRITES=1, so an agent can't send or delete mail unless you opt in.

Setup

1. Install the app — curl -fsSL https://atbridge.ai/install.sh | sh (macOS/Linux) or irm https://atbridge.ai/install.ps1 | iex (Windows), then atbridge bridge install. → Step-by-step guide: Install

Requirements

atbridge is a local server — it needs Thunderbird plus the atbridge add-on (installed by atbridge bridge install), not a remote endpoint. Works on Windows, macOS, and Linux — see Compatibility.
