Overview

What is TestWell?

TestWell sells cash-pay blood tests online — no insurance, no doctor's visit — drawn at Quest Diagnostics, Labcorp and (in New York and New Jersey) BioReference, with a licensed physician authorizing every order. This remote MCP server gives an assistant the same data the site runs on: the live catalog with per-lab prices, all-in quotes by US state, draw sites by ZIP, physician-reviewed reference ranges, measured lab turnaround, price comparisons against other providers, and an agentic checkout.

No API key. Read tools store nothing. Prices come from the catalog of record, so the quote an assistant gives is the price at checkout.

How to use TestWell?

Add the endpoint to any MCP client:

  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http testwell https://www.test-well.com/mcp
  • Cursor / Windsurf / JSON config: { "mcpServers": { "testwell": { "url": "https://www.test-well.com/mcp" } } }
  • Claude.ai / Claude Desktop: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → https://www.test-well.com/mcp
  • ChatGPT (developer mode): Settings → Connectors → Create → same URL

Then ask things like "what does a TSH and ferritin cost all-in in Florida?", "find a Labcorp near 77079", "is a ferritin of 18 low for a woman?", or "build me a thyroid panel and give me the checkout link."

Key features of TestWell

  • 18 tools — 14 read-only (search_tests, get_test, list_panels, recommend_tests, quote_order, find_draw_sites, lookup_reference_range, interpret_results, compare_prices, compare_provider, convert_units, calculate_free_testosterone, get_guide, get_checkout) and 4 agentic-checkout tools (create_checkout, update_checkout, cancel_checkout, complete_checkout), annotated accordingly.
  • All-in pricing by state and lab — per-lab price plus the single $6 fee; nothing is added at checkout.
  • Physician-reviewed reference ranges for 130+ markers with sex/age bands and cited sources; interpret_results flags pasted values against them without storing anything.
  • Measured turnaround from real orders, by lab and by test (the Lab Turnaround Index).
  • Price comparison against Quest Health, Labcorp OnDemand, JustLabs, Ulta Lab Tests and others, with verification dates (the Blood Test Price Index).
  • Endpoint https://www.test-well.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP) · OpenAPI · server card · registry com.test-well/testwell v1.2.0 · support@test-well.com

Use cases of TestWell

  • A health or fitness assistant that turns "check my thyroid" into a priced, orderable cart at the nearest lab.
  • Comparison and shopping agents that need an exact all-in price for a named test in a named state.
  • Results-reading assistants that want reviewed reference ranges and unit conversion instead of model memory.
  • Agent platforms with a payment sheet that complete the order in-conversation via create_checkout → complete_checkout.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is this medical advice?

No. Reference content is reviewed by a named, licensed physician (see https://www.test-well.com/editorial-policy) and is educational; a physician in TestWell's network authorizes each order and reviews critical results.

2

Does it need authentication or store my data?

No key is required. Read tools store nothing. Checkout tools create an order for the buyer details the user supplies, under TestWell's privacy policy and HIPAA notice.

3

Where does it work?

49 US states plus DC and Puerto Rico (not Rhode Island); New York and New Jersey route to BioReference. `quote_order` and `create_checkout` take the state and return only what can actually be drawn there.

4

Where is the source code?

The server is operated by TestWell and is not open source; https://github.com/Jreinitz/testwell-mcp holds the manifest, README and config.
