Lists all available Mastercard Developers Products and Services with their basic information including title, description, and service id. IMPORTANT: The response contains both 'Products' (business offerings) and 'Services' (technical APIs with serviceIds). Use "serviceId" for each service for any tools that require serviceId as the parameter.

Provides an overview of all available documentation for a specific Mastercard service including section titles, descriptions, and navigation links. It takes one argument: - serviceId (str): The unique identifier of the Mastercard service (e.g., 'send', 'loyalty', 'locations')

Retrieves the complete content for a specific documentation section. IMPORTANT: A section is not a single page, but rather a collection of pages that are grouped together. It takes two arguments: - serviceId (str): The unique identifier of the Mastercard service (e.g., 'send', 'loyalty', 'locations') - sectionId (str): The specific section identifier within the service documentation (e.g., 'getting-started', 'api-reference')

Retrieves the complete content of a specific documentation page. Takes one argument: - pagePath (str): The full path to the documentation page (e.g., '/send/documentation/use-cases/index.md')

Retrieves the comprehensive OAuth 1.0a integration guide including step-by-step instructions, code examples, and best practices for Mastercard APIs. Optionally specify a programming language to get language-specific examples and guidance.

Retrieves the comprehensive OAuth 2.0 integration guide including step-by-step instructions, code examples, and best practices for Mastercard APIs. Optionally specify a programming language to get language-specific examples and guidance.

Retrieves the comprehensive Open Finance (previously known as Open Banking) integration guide including setup instructions, API usage examples, and implementation best practices.

Provides a summary of all API operations for a specific Mastercard API specification including HTTP methods, request paths, titles, and descriptions. It takes one argument: - apiSpecificationPath (str): The path to the API specification file e.g., '/open-finance-us/swagger/openbanking-us.yaml')

Provides detailed information about a specific API operation including parameter definitions, request and response schemas, and technical specifications for successful API calls. It takes three arguments: - apiSpecificationPath (str): The path to the API specification file (e.g. The path would be /open-finance-us/swagger/openbanking-us.yaml for https://static.developer.mastercard.com/content/open-finance-us/swagger/openbanking-us.yaml, https://developer.mastercard.com/open-finance-us/swagger/openbanking-us.yaml, or /open-finance-us/swagger/openbanking-us.yaml) - method (str): The HTTP method of the operation (e.g., GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) - path (str): The API endpoint path from the specification (e.g., /payments, /accounts/{id})

Overview

What is Mastercard Developers MCP Server?

Mastercard Developers MCP Server is Mastercard's official, free remote MCP server that gives AI assistants and IDEs direct access to Mastercard Developers documentation, integration guides and API specifications, with no authentication required.

It is part of the Mastercard Developers Agent Toolkit. Developers building on Mastercard APIs (payments, fraud prevention, identity, Open Finance, loyalty and more) can ask their coding assistant which service fits a use case, read the current docs and generate integration code from the actual API specs, instead of browsing the portal by hand. The server covers Mastercard Developers content only; it does not call Mastercard APIs on your behalf or touch any account.

How to use Mastercard Developers MCP Server?

Mastercard recommends the remote server: it needs minimal configuration and no local Node or npx install. The server URL is:

https://developer.mcp.mastercard.com

There is no API key or sign-in. If a client asks for an authentication method, choose "No Authentication".

Claude Code

Mastercard's documented command:

claude mcp add --transport http mastercard-developers https://developer.mcp.mastercard.com

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

Open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste https://developer.mcp.mastercard.com. No sign-in step follows.

Cursor

Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (Mastercard's docs also offer an "Add to Cursor" button):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mastercard-developers": {
      "url": "https://developer.mcp.mastercard.com"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Add to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "mastercard-developers": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://developer.mcp.mastercard.com"
    }
  }
}

Local option

For more control, Mastercard publishes a local stdio server on npm, @mastercard/developers-mcp, which clients launch with npx -y @mastercard/developers-mcp. Claude Desktop users can also install a prebuilt .dxt extension from the docs. To embed the server in your own app, use the open-source SDK @mastercard/developers-agent-toolkit from GitHub. The SDK accepts service and apiSpecification options that narrow the scope to one service or one OpenAPI spec; setting either disables get-services-list.

Key features of Mastercard Developers MCP Server

  • Official server from Mastercard, documented in the Agent Toolkit section of Mastercard Developers.
  • Free to use, with no API key, OAuth or Mastercard account needed for the remote endpoint.
  • Service discovery across Mastercard products and technical services, each with a serviceId.
  • Full documentation access, from section overviews down to individual pages.
  • Dedicated guides for OAuth 1.0a and OAuth 2.0 API authentication, with optional language-specific examples, plus an Open Finance integration guide.
  • API operation listings and detailed request/response schemas from Mastercard's OpenAPI specs.
  • Remote, local npx and SDK options, documented for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and ChatGPT.

Mastercard Developers MCP Server tools

The remote endpoint exposes nine tools in four groups:

  • Service discovery: get-services-list lists Mastercard Developers products and services with their title, description and serviceId, which the other tools take as input.
  • Documentation: get-documentation gives an overview of a service's docs with section titles and links; get-documentation-section-content returns a whole section (a group of pages); get-documentation-page returns a single page by path.
  • Integration guides: get-oauth10a-integration-guide, get-oauth20-integration-guide and get-openfinance-integration-guide return step-by-step guides with code examples.
  • API specifications: get-api-operation-list summarizes all operations in an API spec (methods, paths, descriptions), and get-api-operation-details returns parameters and request and response schemas for one operation.

Use cases of Mastercard Developers MCP Server

  • Service discovery: "What fraud prevention tools does Mastercard offer?"
  • Rapid prototyping: "I need to integrate Open Finance to verify account ownership and check balances for my fintech app."
  • Authentication code: "I want code that generates an access token so I can start calling Open Finance US APIs."
  • Request signing: ask for the OAuth 1.0a guide in your language before wiring up signed calls to a Mastercard API.
  • Schema lookups: have the assistant list the operations in a spec and pull the exact request body for the one you are implementing.

Troubleshooting Mastercard Developers MCP Server

  • The client asks how to authenticate: select "No Authentication"; the remote server is public.
  • get-services-list is missing: on an SDK-hosted server, a service or apiSpecification option disables it. Remove the option to restore it.
  • ChatGPT cannot add the server: custom connectors in ChatGPT require developer mode; Mastercard lists Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts.
