Overview

What is DualEntry MCP Server?

The DualEntry MCP Server makes your ledger operable by AI. It connects Claude, Cursor, VS Code, OpenAI Codex and any MCP client directly to your live books in DualEntry, the AI-native ERP and accounting platform. It works on your live books, not a copy, and there is no sync or install.

Most accounting connectors stop at read-only. DualEntry gives you 13 tools in two jobs: ask and act.

Tools

Ask (read)

  • search_records: filter transactions by type, name, date and amount (up to 1,000 results per page)
  • get_record_detail: full detail for any record by ID
  • get_record_by_number: look up a record by number, e.g. JE-123
  • get_record_history: full audit trail for a record
  • get_related_records: trace linked records, such as payments on an invoice
  • get_record_schema: field schema for any record type
  • list_supported_transactions: supported record types and whether each can be created
  • search_entities: look up accounts, customers, vendors, items, classifications and terms

Act (write, draft-first)

  • create_draft_record: draft journal entries, invoices and bills
  • validate_record: check a draft against your chart of accounts before saving
  • save_record: post to the ledger, only after you approve
  • create_draft_entity / save_entity: create customers, vendors and other master data

Nothing posts without your approval.

Use cases

  • Finance & accounting: look up records, trace transactions and draft entries during month-end close, such as posting a period-end accrual
  • FP&A & RevOps: query revenue, AR and AP across entities with record links intact
  • Engineering: investigate, debug and prototype against live ledger data before building on the REST API

Example prompt:

Show me all invoices from last month over $5,000, then draft a bill for Acme Corp for $500 of office supplies.

Security & permissions

  • OAuth 2.1 sign-in with your DualEntry credentials over Streamable HTTP. There are no API keys to create, rotate or leak.
  • Role-based access: every tool follows the user's DualEntry role. If you can't see it in the dashboard, you can't see it through MCP.
  • On Claude Team and Enterprise, an Owner approves the connector first.

Frequently asked questions

1

What is the DualEntry remote MCP server?

The DualEntry remote MCP server is a hosted Model Context Protocol endpoint at https://api.dualentry.com/mcp/, so AI assistants can connect to it without installing or running anything locally.

2

How do I connect to the DualEntry MCP server?

Add the endpoint https://api.dualentry.com/mcp/ to any MCP-compatible client such as Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code. The setup snippets on this page configure each client in one step.

3

Yes. DualEntry uses OAuth: the first time you connect, your MCP client opens a browser window to sign in and authorize access, then reuses the credentials for future sessions.

4

Which transport does the DualEntry MCP server use?

DualEntry exposes a Streamable HTTP endpoint, the transport used by remote MCP servers and supported by all major MCP clients.
