commercetools Knowledge MCP
commercetools Knowledge MCP is the official hosted MCP server for commercetools developer documentation and API specifications. AI agents and IDEs can run semantic doc search, fetch GraphQL schemas and OpenAPI specs per resource, and validate GraphQL queries and REST requests. It is free, needs no authentication and is rate limited per IP.
https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcpclaude mcp add commercetools-knowledge --transport http https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcpRetrieves documentation content chunks that are semantically similar to the input. Use this tool to find domain concepts, business behavior explanations, and reference material from the commercetools documentation. Inline links in the content use markdown format [text](url). The URL usually points to the commercetools documentation portal but can also point to API reference docs or external resources. Relative links resolve against "https://docs.commercetools.com". Appending ".md" to a documentation URL fetches the markdown source of that page. Example: a relative link "./api/predicates/query" resolves to "https://docs.commercetools.com/api/predicates/query.md" If you are requesting only one specific content type, pass the same value for crowding and limit. The mean size of a documentation chunk returned is in the range of 500-600 tokens.
Fetches a partial commercetools GraphQL schema for a given resource. Use this tool to retrieve the GraphQL type definitions needed to construct queries or mutations against commercetools. Each resource name is prefixed with the GraphQL SDL it belongs to (e.g. `gql-sphere-Product` for sphere API, `gql-il-Cart` for integration layer API), reflected in the "resourceName" enum. For each stubbed type in the schema, the full schema for that type can be fetched by invoking the tool again with the resource name specified in the comment related to the stubbed type. The comment looks like this: Stub of the `{nameOfStubbedResource}` resource. fetch the full subschema via the MCP resource name `{nameOfTheResource}`. The returned schema contains descriptions but no "implements" Interface information and no deprecated query types. Conventions and predicate examples for commercetools GraphQL are available in the `commercetools-developer-tips` MCP prompt.
Validates a GraphQL query or mutation against the official commercetools public schema, returning syntax and schema errors with line/column locations. Doesn't validate project-specific schema.
Fetches a partial commercetools OpenAPI spec for a given commercetools resource. Use this tool when you need the detailed REST schema of a resource to construct requests or generate a REST client. The returned spec is self-contained and valid for everything regarding that resource. It contains descriptions but they are not comprehensive. Each resource may be available as a read variant, write variant, or unified spec, reflected in the "resourceName" enum. Conventions and predicate examples for commercetools REST APIs are available in the `commercetools-developer-tips` MCP prompt.
Fetches a single documentation content entry from the commercetools documentation content API by its ID. Use this tool when you already have a content ID (for example, one returned by `commercetools-documentation-search`) and want to retrieve the raw content as a string.
Validates REST API requests (method + path + body) against commercetools OpenAPI specifications offline. Returns detailed errors with suggestions for invalid requests. This tool checks: - Path exists in the API - HTTP method is allowed for that path - Request body matches the expected schema (types, required fields, enums, etc.) - Discriminator fields (like 'action' in update requests) are valid Use this before making actual API calls to catch errors early.
commercetools Knowledge MCP Server is the official, free commercetools MCP server for developer docs and API specs: AI agents can search the documentation, fetch GraphQL and OpenAPI schemas, and validate queries and REST requests, with no authentication.
commercetools offers two MCP servers. Commerce MCP acts on resources such as Carts and Orders in your Project and needs API client credentials. Knowledge MCP, covered here, is a stateless server that serves only public documentation and API schema content, so you can use it without access to any commercetools Project. It is meant to reduce ramp-up time and help AI coding assistants write correct commercetools code instead of guessing field names.
The server is available over Streamable HTTP only (no local stdio, no SSE) at:
https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp
No API key, sign-in or Project is needed. commercetools suggests commercetools-knowledge as the local server name.
claude mcp add --transport http commercetools-knowledge https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp
Go to Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector, set the name to commercetools-knowledge and the remote MCP server URL to https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp.
In Cursor Settings > Tools & MCP > New MCP Server, add:
{
"mcpServers": {
"commercetools-knowledge": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp"
}
}
}
Add it to your user mcp.json or a workspace .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"commercetools-knowledge": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp"
}
}
}
For clients that only support local stdio servers, commercetools documents wrapping the endpoint with mcp-remote:
"commercetools-knowledge": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp"]
}
JetBrains IDEs can connect through an MCP-capable plugin such as AI Assistant.
commercetools-developer-tips prompt that loads conventions such as key vs id, centAmount minor units, LocalizedString, query predicates, sorting and common pitfalls.The server exposes six tools in three groups.
commercetools-documentation-search returns documentation chunks semantically similar to your question; commercetools-documentation-by-id fetches one full entry when you already have its content ID (for example ctp:api:type:ProductProjection).commercetools-graphql-schemata returns a partial GraphQL schema for a resource such as Cart; commercetools-oas-schemata returns a self-contained OpenAPI spec for a resource such as api-Customer-write.commercetools-graphql-validate checks a query or mutation and returns errors with line and column; commercetools-rest-validate checks method, path and body, including update-action discriminators. Both are read-only and validate against the public schema, not your Project's configuration.The documented workflow is search, then fetch the schema, then validate, then generate code or execute the call.

Yes. commercetools describes it as completely free to use. It is rate limited to 100 requests per 15 minutes per IP address.
No. It requires no authentication and serves only public documentation and schema content, so it works without any Project access.
No. It never connects to your Project, and its validation tools do not execute queries. To act on Carts, Orders and other resources, use commercetools Commerce MCP, which uses API client credentials.
Yes. commercetools documents setup for VS Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop and Claude Code, plus JetBrains IDEs and stdio clients through `mcp-remote`.
commercetools suggests building your own MCP server for heavy or enterprise usage.
The commercetools Knowledge MCP remote MCP server is a hosted Model Context Protocol endpoint at https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp, so AI assistants can connect to it without installing or running anything locally.
Add the endpoint https://docs.commercetools.com/apis/mcp to any MCP-compatible client such as Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code. The setup snippets on this page configure each client in one step.
Authentication requirements for commercetools Knowledge MCP have not been confirmed in this listing. Check the provider’s documentation before connecting.
commercetools Knowledge MCP exposes a streamable-http endpoint, the transport used by remote MCP servers and supported by all major MCP clients.
