Overview

What is Cardboard AI?

Cardboard is an AI video editor for turning raw footage into finished videos, from social clips and highlight reels to product demos, vlogs and event recaps. With the Cardboard app in Claude or ChatGPT, describe the video you want and turn your clips, photos, recordings, or a link into an edit you can watch, change and export right in the chat.

What you can do

Cut a long video down to its best moments, turn it into a vertical Reel, Short or TikTok, or pull highlights from hours of footage. Remove pauses, filler words and bad takes, find the exact moment someone said something, and drop in stock or archival B-roll where it fits. Add word-by-word captions, animated titles, music, sound effects and a voiceover, then reframe to keep the speaker in shot, remove the background or change the look with a color grade.

Not sure where to start? Pick from 50+ templates, called recipes, for podcast clips, travel montages, launch videos, product showcases and more, then refine the pacing, order and text until it feels right. Every edit plays in the chat, and you can undo any change.

Who it's for

Cardboard supports creators, vloggers, YouTubers, podcasters, marketers, founders, designers, product managers, engineers, editors, educators, small business owners, and teams who need video without learning a timeline. Projects are saved to your Cardboard account, so you can pick them up in any chat and export an MP4 when you're done.

Example prompts

  • "Here's my talking video: remove the pauses and filler words, then add captions."
  • "Cut my long video into 3 vertical clips for Reels, best moments first."
  • "Turn my trip photos and clips into a 1-minute video with music."
  • "Make a 30-second launch video from my website."

How to connect

Sign in with your Cardboard account (OAuth). No API key and nothing to install. Setup guide: https://docs.cardboard.ai/mcp

FAQ

Can ChatGPT edit videos? Yes, with the Cardboard app connected. You upload your footage, ask for the edit in plain words, and ChatGPT uses Cardboard to cut, caption and export the video.

Can Claude edit videos? Yes, with the Cardboard connector. Claude uses Cardboard's tools to edit your footage on a real timeline and shows each edit in a player in the chat.

What do I need? A Cardboard account and Claude or ChatGPT.

What can Cardboard see? Only your Cardboard projects and the requests the assistant sends. The assistant never gets your password, and Cardboard never sees your conversation.

How is this different from AI video generation? Cardboard edits your real footage on a real timeline instead of inventing a new video, and you can undo any change.

What does it cost? It uses your Cardboard plan. See https://www.cardboard.ai/pricing
