Return the current allowed node-type catalog as structured JSON, together with the SCOPING PRINCIPLE that determines whether something should be a node at all. Read aiarchitect://rules/architecture-principles before calling this if you have not already.

Return the current allowed connection-type catalog as structured JSON.

Return the canonical edge.style block for a given connectionType. One of: default, async, sync, notification, rpc, stream, tcp.

Return schema-valid empty blueprint with one page. Always use this instead of hand-writing top-level JSON.

Build complete node JSON with all required dimension/style fields and generates a unique id. Always use this instead of hand-writing. Notes support markdown. IMPORTANT: Use suggest_grid_position, suggest_horizontal_position, or suggest_vertical_position to calculate positions for clean layouts with proper spacing.

Build complete edge JSON with canonical style and handles, generates unique id. Always use this instead of hand-writing. Canvas caption comes from data.notes (3-8 words) or falls back to connectionType label if notes is omitted.

Return { sourceHandle, targetHandle } so edges leave from the side facing the other node. Always call for every edge.

Calculate well-spaced grid position for a node. Returns {x, y}. Use this for clean layouts - nodes will have proper spacing (450px horizontal, 350px vertical). Much better than manually calculating positions.

Calculate position for horizontal flow layout (left to right). Returns {x, y}. Nodes will be spaced 450px apart horizontally.

Calculate position for vertical flow layout (top to bottom). Returns {x, y}. Nodes will be spaced 350px apart vertically.

Get recommended spacing constants for manual position calculation. Returns spacing values, node dimensions, and starting positions.

Delete a node from the blueprint. Use this to fix validation errors or remove unwanted nodes. Streams deletion event to UI if sessionId provided.

Delete an edge from the blueprint. Use this to fix validation errors or remove unwanted connections. Streams deletion event to UI if sessionId provided.

Update the position of an existing node. Use this to adjust layout or fix cramped spacing. Streams update event to UI if sessionId provided.

Update the label of an existing node. Use this to fix typos or improve clarity. Streams update event to UI if sessionId provided.

Update the notes/description of an existing node. Use this to add missing notes or improve documentation. Streams update event to UI if sessionId provided.

Update the caption/notes on an existing edge. Use this to improve edge labeling or fix missing notes. Streams update event to UI if sessionId provided.

Request access to the blueprint currently loaded in the user's browser. This will prompt the user for permission. If granted, returns the blueprint JSON with metadata (node count, edge count, last updated time). Use this when the user asks you to work with their existing blueprint (e.g., 'improve my blueprint', 'add nodes to my current design', 'analyze my blueprint'). Requires an active stream session — ask the user for their streamSessionId if you don't have it.

Validate blueprint JSON against schema. Returns { valid, errors, warnings }.

Export a validated blueprint with Atsign Platform implementation guide. Returns the same format as the web app's 'Export Prompt' button: blueprint structure + complete Atsign Platform SDK guide + node roles. Use this in IDEs (Cursor, Claude Code) to get everything needed for code generation in one call.

Return Atsign Platform implementation rules for code generation. Only call after successful validation.

Push a complete, validated blueprint JSON to the user's browser so the canvas updates immediately. Use this after a successful validate_blueprint call to replace the canvas with the final blueprint. Requires an active stream session.

Overview

What is Atsign AI Architect MCP Server?

Atsign AI Architect MCP Server connects AI coding assistants to Atsign AI Architect, a visual tool for designing secure-by-design applications and agentic systems, so the assistant can build, validate and export architecture blueprints.

AI Architect is made by Atsign. Teams use it to draw a blueprint of an application before code is written: its components, AI agents, identities, permissions, data flows and communication paths. The blueprint is then exported as structured context for an AI coding assistant, which generates code that uses the Atsign Platform, Atsign's service for encrypted, identity-based communication with no exposed inbound ports. Since June 2026, the MCP connection lets assistants such as Claude or Cursor draft a blueprint from a plain-language request and later read the approved version back for code generation.

How to use Atsign AI Architect MCP Server?

The server is a remote Streamable HTTP endpoint that accepts anonymous MCP clients, so no API key or header is needed to connect:

https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp

To see blueprints on the visual canvas, open AI Architect in your browser (Atsign offers a free trial on its product page). The tools that read from or write to the canvas, request_current_blueprint and push_blueprint, need the stream session ID of your open browser session; the assistant will ask you for it.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http atsign-ai-architect https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

Go to Settings > Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and enter https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp as the URL.

Cursor

Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json or the project's .cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "atsign-ai-architect": {
      "url": "https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Add to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "atsign-ai-architect": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Then ask for a design, for example: "Build a CRM platform with customer workflows, analytics pipelines and restricted-access AI agents" (the example prompt from Atsign's announcement).

Key features of Atsign AI Architect MCP Server

  • Official MCP connection to Atsign AI Architect, announced by Atsign in June 2026.
  • Scaffolding tools that produce schema-valid blueprint, node and edge JSON, so the assistant does not hand-write the format.
  • Catalogs of allowed node types and connection types, including a scoping principle for what should be a node at all.
  • Schema validation that returns errors and warnings before anything is pushed or exported.
  • Two-way link with the browser canvas: pull the blueprint you have open, or push a validated one so the canvas updates immediately.
  • Export for implementation that bundles the blueprint with the Atsign Platform SDK guide and node roles, intended for use in IDEs such as Cursor and Claude Code.

Atsign AI Architect MCP Server tools

The server exposes 22 tools, which fall into five groups:

  • Catalogs and rules: list_node_types, list_connection_types and canonical_edge_style (for the connection types default, async, sync, notification, rpc, stream and tcp) tell the assistant what a blueprint may contain. get_implementation_rules returns the Atsign Platform rules for code generation once a blueprint validates.
  • Scaffolding: scaffold_blueprint creates an empty blueprint with one page; scaffold_node and scaffold_edge build complete node and edge JSON with unique IDs; pick_edge_handles picks the sides an edge should leave and enter from.
  • Layout: suggest_grid_position, suggest_horizontal_position, suggest_vertical_position and get_layout_constants calculate well-spaced positions.
  • Editing: delete_node, delete_edge, update_node_position, update_node_label, update_node_notes and update_edge_notes fix or refine a blueprint, streaming the change to the UI when a session ID is given.
  • Validation, canvas and export: validate_blueprint checks the JSON against the schema; request_current_blueprint asks permission to read the blueprint loaded in your browser; push_blueprint replaces the canvas with a validated blueprint; export_for_implementation returns the same output as the web app's "Export Prompt" button.

Use cases of Atsign AI Architect MCP Server

  • Starting from a blank canvas: "Design a support system with a triage agent, a billing agent and a human escalation path, then push it to my canvas."
  • Improving an existing design: "Load my current blueprint, find nodes without notes and add short descriptions."
  • Fixing validation errors: have the assistant run validate_blueprint, then delete or update the offending nodes and edges.
  • Going from design to code: in Cursor or Claude Code, call export_for_implementation on the approved blueprint and generate code that follows the Atsign Platform implementation rules.

Troubleshooting Atsign AI Architect MCP Server

  • push_blueprint or request_current_blueprint fails. Both need an active stream session. Open AI Architect in your browser and give the assistant the stream session ID.
  • The canvas doesn't change after edits. Edit tools stream updates to the UI only when a session ID is provided; otherwise they just return updated JSON.
  • Validation errors after hand-edited JSON. Ask the assistant to rebuild elements with scaffold_node and scaffold_edge instead of writing JSON by hand, as the tool descriptions recommend.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is the Atsign AI Architect MCP server official?

Yes. It is hosted on Atsign's own `aiarchitect.atsign.com` domain, and Atsign announced the MCP connection in a June 2026 press release.

2

Do I need an API key?

No key or header is needed to connect; the endpoint accepts anonymous MCP clients. Working with the live canvas requires an AI Architect browser session and its stream session ID.

3

Is it free?

The MCP endpoint itself has no sign-in. AI Architect is offered with a free trial; Atsign's site does not publish further pricing on the product page.

4

Which AI assistants does it work with?

Atsign names Claude and Cursor. Any client that supports remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers, including Claude Code and VS Code, can connect with the URL.

5

Does it generate application code?

The server does not write code itself. `export_for_implementation` and `get_implementation_rules` give your coding assistant the blueprint plus the Atsign Platform guide, and the assistant generates the code.

6

Can the assistant change my blueprint without asking?

Reading the blueprint open in your browser goes through `request_current_blueprint`, which prompts you for permission. Pushing to the canvas requires the stream session ID you provide.

7

What is the Atsign AI Architect remote MCP server?

The Atsign AI Architect remote MCP server is a hosted Model Context Protocol endpoint at https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp, so AI assistants can connect to it without installing or running anything locally.

8

How do I connect to the Atsign AI Architect MCP server?

Add the endpoint https://aiarchitect.atsign.com/mcp to any MCP-compatible client such as Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code. The setup snippets on this page configure each client in one step.

9

Does the Atsign AI Architect MCP server require authentication?

Authentication requirements for Atsign AI Architect have not been confirmed in this listing. Check the provider’s documentation before connecting.

10

Which transport does the Atsign AI Architect MCP server use?

Atsign AI Architect exposes a streamable-http endpoint, the transport used by remote MCP servers and supported by all major MCP clients.
