AlibabaCloud DMS MCP Server is an AI-era data security access gateway and intelligent data query engine that integrates with Alibaba Cloud DMS to provide secure, unified access to over 40 data sources. It is designed for DBAs, developers, and data analysts who need centralized, permission-controlled database management and natural-language-driven querying.
How to use AlibabaCloud DMS MCP Server?
The server supports two modes: Multi-instance Mode (for managing and querying multiple database instances via DMS) and Single Database Mode (for direct access to a fixed database by configuring the CONNECTION_STRING parameter). Users invoke tools such as addInstance, listInstances, executeScript, askDatabase, and others to manage instances, run SQL, or pose natural-language questions.

How do I connect to a single database?
Set the CONNECTION_STRING parameter (format: dbName@host:port) in the server configuration. The server will then access only that database without needing instance switching.
What modes are available?
Two modes are supported: Multi-instance Mode (requires adding instances to DMS) and Single Database Mode (direct connection via CONNECTION_STRING).
Which data sources are supported for NL2SQL?
NL2SQL is supported for MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLServer, StarRocks, Clickhouse, SelectDB, DB2, OceanBase, Gauss, BigQuery, PolarDB, and others. Redis and MongoDB do not support NL2SQL.
Does the server support access control and audit logs?
Yes, by default the server provides fine-grained access control (instance/table/field/row) and SQL audit logs for all listed data sources.
Can I approve or reject orders through the server?
Yes, the approveOrder tool allows approving or rejecting orders in DMS, and the submitOrderApproval tool submits orders for approval.
