Is this server read‑only?
Yes. The project explicitly builds a read‑only MCP server. For full read, write, update, delete, and action capabilities, CData offers a separate beta MCP server.

}Tool list not available yet
This listing does not currently have a tool list to display. This does not mean the server has no tools; check its documentation for supported capabilities.
We auto-extract tools from the README. The maintainer can list them under a ## Tools heading to populate this section.
This read-only MCP server enables LLMs such as Claude Desktop to query live data from SAS xpt files using natural language. It wraps the CData JDBC Driver for SAS xpt, which exposes SAS xpt data as relational SQL tables, and makes that data available through a simple MCP interface.
Clone the repository and build the JAR with mvn clean install. Next, download and install the CData JDBC Driver for SAS xpt, license it, and configure a connection string via the driver's utility. Create a .prp file with the JDBC connection properties (prefix, server details, driver path, class, and JDBC URL). Finally, add the server to your Claude Desktop configuration (claude_desktop_config.json) using the Java command, then restart the client.

You need Java to run the built JAR, the CData JDBC Driver for SAS xpt (downloaded separately), and a client like Claude Desktop that supports MCP over stdio.
The server connects to SAS xpt files on the same machine using the JDBC driver. All queries run locally; data is not sent to external services beyond the LLM client.
The server uses `stdio` transport, so it can only be used with clients running on the same machine as the server.
Authentication is handled by the CData JDBC Driver. If the data source uses OAuth, you will be prompted to authenticate in your browser when configuring the connection string.
