Overview

What is Google Calendar MCP Server?

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that integrates with the Google Calendar API, enabling AI assistants to manage calendars, create and update events, find available time slots, and more.

How to use Google Calendar MCP Server?

Install Node.js 16+ and set up a Google Cloud project with the Calendar API enabled. Obtain OAuth 2.0 client credentials, then create a .env file with GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID, GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET, and GOOGLE_REDIRECT_URI. Start the server (npx ts-node src/index.ts), authorize via the provided URL, and save the refresh token using npx ts-node src/auth-helper.ts "YOUR_AUTH_CODE". Once running, integrate with AI assistants by configuring the MCP server with the appropriate command and environment variables (e.g., node /path/to/dist/index.js).

Key features of Google Calendar MCP Server

  • List all available calendars
  • List events with filtering (time, search, max results)
  • Create, update, and delete events
  • Get detailed information about specific events
  • Find available time slots in a calendar
  • Get upcoming meetings (ongoing, upcoming, past)
  • Support for recurring events and attendee management

Use cases of Google Calendar MCP Server

  • Ask your AI assistant to show today’s calendar or schedule a meeting
  • Search for free 30-minute slots during working hours
  • Reschedule or cancel events using natural language
  • Manage recurring event series and attendee lists

Frequently asked questions

1

What dependencies are required?

Node.js 16+ and a Google Cloud project with the Calendar API enabled. OAuth 2.0 client credentials (Client ID, Client Secret, and a Redirect URI) are also required.

2

How does authentication work?

Start the server, open the URL printed in the console, authorize the app in your browser, then copy the authorization code. Run `npx ts-node src/auth-helper.ts "YOUR_AUTH_CODE"` to save the refresh token to your `.env` file.

3

Where are credentials stored and how secure are they?

Credentials (OAuth client ID, secret, redirect URI, and refresh token) are stored in the `.env` file. The server runs locally, so your calendar data never passes through external servers, and refresh tokens should be kept secure.

4

What tools/commands does the server expose?

The server provides tools: `list_calendars`, `list_events`, `create_event`, `get_event`, `update_event`, `delete_event`, `find_available_slots`, and `get_upcoming_meetings`. Each accepts parameters like calendar ID, time range, search term, attendees, etc.

5

Can it be run in a Docker container?

Yes. The recommended method is to build and run with `docker-compose up -d`. A pre-built Docker image `daemonx10/google-calendar-mcp:latest` is also available via `docker pull`.
