What is The Gold Barometer?

The Gold Barometer publishes a daily gold buying-conditions score, 0 to 100, for the US market. Every night it is rebuilt from seven public sources: real interest rates, the entry price against its own history, central-bank and ETF demand, the dollar, futures positioning, volatility and retail premiums. Behind today's number sits a reconstructed monthly record back to 1971, and the record of what followed readings like today's over one, five and ten years.

This MCP server lets an assistant read that data directly. No key, no account, no rate limit to negotiate: the data is a free public API under CC BY 4.0.

Tools

• get_current_reading: today's score, its zone, and the state of each measured part (fresh, aging, dropped).
• get_reading_history: the published daily series, as JSON.
• get_zone_record: what followed past readings in the same zone, one, five and ten years later, before and after inflation.

How to use it

Add the server to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, any client that runs stdio servers):

Then ask things like "What is the gold buying-conditions score today and why?", "How did the score move over the last 30 days?", or "What happened after readings in the Unfavorable zone?".

Hosted endpoint (no install)

The same three tools are also served over HTTPS, for clients that take a URL (Claude connectors, Cursor, Windsurf, Smithery):
