What is MCP Play Sound Server?

MCP Play Sound Server is a Model Context Protocol server that provides audio playback for AI agents, enabling them to play sound notifications when coding tasks are completed. It is currently tested on macOS and is an early proof of concept.

How to use MCP Play Sound Server?

Clone the repository, set up a Python virtual environment, and install the package with pip install -e ".[dev]". Then configure Claude Desktop by adding a JSON entry to claude_desktop_config.json with the command uv and appropriate args pointing to the server directory. Restart Claude Desktop and ask the assistant to play a notification sound.
