What is MCP Toolbox?

A stdio Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that bridges Tollbit’s Dynamic Toolbox to stdio-based MCP clients. Tools are fetched and executed via Tollbit’s backend with no local installation needed, making it ideal for developers using Claude Desktop or other stdio‑compatible MCP clients.

How to use MCP Toolbox?

Run npx @tollbit/mcp-toolbox --api-key <your_api_key> to start the bridge. Optionally specify a toolbox with --toolbox-id <id>. For Claude Desktop on macOS, use npx -y @tollbit/mcp-toolbox install_claude --api-key <your_api_key> to automatically configure the client.

Node.js 18+ is required. The `install_claude` helper script requires macOS. A Tollbit API key and network access to `https://mcp.tollbit.dev/` are also needed.

How do I authenticate?

Provide your Tollbit API key using the `--api-key` option when launching the bridge or installing for Claude Desktop.

Can I use MCP Toolbox with Claude Desktop?

Yes. On macOS, run the `install_claude` command to automatically add the server to Claude Desktop’s configuration with your API key.

How do I specify a specific toolbox?

Use the optional `--toolbox-id` flag. The default toolbox ID is `mcp`.
