Compshop is an independent directory of salary and compensation surveys. It aggregates and searches over 350 reports across 17+ vendors—including Mercer, WTW, Aon, SullivanCotter, Gallagher, Pearl Meyer, and others—by job title, industry, geography, or publisher.

How to use Compshop?

Clone the repository, run npm install followed by npm run dev, and open http://localhost:3000 in a browser. Data can be loaded via command-line scripts (npm run db:add-vendor, npm run db:add-report, or npm run db:add-report-batch). The app can be deployed to Vercel with the SQLite database file committed to the repo.

How do I run the project locally?

Use the command-line scripts: npm run db:add-vendor <path-to-json> to add a vendor, and npm run db:add-report <path-to-directory> to add a report. A batch loader is also available via npm run db:add-report-batch.

What is the tech stack?

The project uses Next.js 14 (App Router) with TypeScript and Tailwind CSS, SQLite via better-sqlite3 for the database, and server-side full-text search. It deploys to Vercel.

How is the database handled in production?

The SQLite database file (data/compshop.db) is committed to the repository and read at request time by serverless routes; most pages are pre-rendered statically at build time using generateStaticParams and force-static.
