What is AssetLab?

AssetLab is a Canadian asset management and CMMS platform for the teams that run buildings, fleets and municipal infrastructure. This is its official hosted MCP server. It connects Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or any MCP-compatible client to your AssetLab account, so you can ask about your portfolio in plain language and create or update records without leaving the conversation.

How to connect

Claude

1. Create an API key in AssetLab under Settings > API Keys
2. In Claude, go to Settings > Connectors > Add connector
3. Enter the URL https://mcp.assetlab.ca
4. Paste your API key when prompted

ChatGPT

1. Create an API key in AssetLab under Settings > API Keys
2. In ChatGPT, go to Settings > Apps & Connectors > Add new connector
3. Enter the URL https://mcp.assetlab.ca and set authentication to OAuth
4. Paste your API key on the AssetLab authorization page

Microsoft Copilot (via Copilot Studio)

1. Add a Model Context Protocol tool to your agent
2. Use the URL https://mcp.assetlab.ca/mcp?profile=core
3. Authenticate with an API key sent as an Authorization: Bearer header

The core profile publishes 28 tools covering sites, buildings, assets, work orders, work requests, PM schedules and vendors. It exists for clients that cap how many tools one agent can hold.

What is covered

• Assets and maintenance records: assets, condition assessments, costs, documents, parts, replacement plans, lifecycle strategies
• Work management: work orders, work requests, PM schedules and templates
• Sites, buildings and systems: locations, floorplans, system hierarchy, FCI history
• Projects and capital planning: projects, tasks, milestones, budgets, risks, time entries
• Finance and vendors: budgets, expenses, invoices, purchase orders, contracts, vendors
• Compliance, forms and level of service: compliance items and records, inspection forms, LoS measures and targets
• Infrastructure: networks, feature classes, segments with GeoJSON geometry, inspections, zones

Tools follow one naming pattern: list_ and get_ to read, create_, update_ and delete_ to write.

Security and access

• OAuth 2.0 with PKCE through mcp.assetlab.ca
• Scoped API keys: grant read or write per resource, for example work_orders:read or assets:write
• Read-only by default: write operations need explicit write scopes
• Tenant-bound: every key reaches one organization only
• Revocable: revoke a key at any time under Settings > API Keys
• Administrator controlled: keys are created by your organization's administrators

FAQ

Do I need an AssetLab account? Yes. The server works with data in your own AssetLab organization.

Can the assistant change my data? Only if you grant write scopes on the API key. Keys are read-only by default.

Which AI assistants are supported? Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot are documented, and any MCP-compatible client can connect.
