A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation for the Linear GraphQL API that enables AI assistants to interact with Linear project management systems.

How to use Linear MCP Server?

Install via Smithery (npx -y @smithery/cli install @emmett.deen/linear-mcp-server --client claude) or manually via npm. Configure with your Linear API key in the MCP settings file or run with linear-mcp-server --token YOUR_LINEAR_API_TOKEN.

What are the prerequisites?

Node.js v18+, NPM or Yarn, and a Linear API token.

How do I authenticate with Linear MCP Server?

Provide your Linear API key via the `LINEAR_API_KEY` environment variable or the `--token` command-line argument. Authentication uses user tokens, not OAuth.

Where is the configuration file located?

For Claude Desktop: `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json`. For Claude VSCode Extension: `~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json`. For GoMCP: `~/.config/gomcp/config.yaml`.

How do I run the server?

Run `linear-mcp-server --token YOUR_LINEAR_API_TOKEN` or set the `LINEAR_API_TOKEN` environment variable and run `linear-mcp-server`.

What transport does Linear MCP Server use?

It uses stdio transport (type: "stdio") as configured in MCP settings.
