About Whalesync MCP Server

Whalesync MCP Server is Whalesync's official remote MCP endpoint. After an OAuth sign-in, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients can create and edit syncs between apps like Airtable, Notion, Webflow, HubSpot and Postgres, check status and issues, and manage Live Exports. A person still approves new syncs in the app.

Overview

What is Whalesync MCP Server?

Whalesync MCP Server is Whalesync's official remote MCP endpoint that lets AI agents in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code create, configure and monitor Whalesync syncs and Live Exports on your behalf, using a browser sign-in instead of API keys.

Whalesync keeps data in sync between tools such as Airtable, Notion, Webflow, HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Sheets, Postgres and Supabase. Setting up a sync means picking tables, mapping fields and watching for issues. With the MCP server, you can describe the sync you want ("keep my Airtable products table in sync with the Webflow CMS") and the agent builds the draft, while a person still approves it in the Whalesync app. The server uses the same resources, IDs and error codes as the Whalesync REST API.

How to use Whalesync MCP Server?

You need a Whalesync account. The only thing a client needs is the server URL:

https://api.whalesync.com/mcp

There is no key or secret in the config. The first time the agent calls the server, your browser opens Whalesync's consent page: sign in, review the requested access and click Connect.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http whalesync https://api.whalesync.com/mcp

The browser sign-in opens on first use (you can also start it from /mcp).

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

Whalesync is in the Claude connectors directory: find it under Settings > Connectors > Browse connectors and click Connect. If your organization restricts directory connectors, add a custom connector with the URL https://api.whalesync.com/mcp. Claude opens the Whalesync sign-in on first use.

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or to .cursor/mcp.json in a project:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "whalesync": {
      "url": "https://api.whalesync.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Whalesync's docs give this command:

code --add-mcp '{"name":"whalesync","type":"http","url":"https://api.whalesync.com/mcp"}'

Or add the same server to .vscode/mcp.json with "type": "http" and the URL.

ChatGPT, Codex and Grok

Whalesync is also in the ChatGPT app directory, and its docs cover Codex (codex mcp add whalesync --url https://api.whalesync.com/mcp, then codex mcp login whalesync) and Grok custom connectors.

Key features of Whalesync MCP Server

  • Official, hosted by Whalesync; nothing to install.
  • OAuth browser consent with no API keys; you can grant a weaker scope than the client requests, never a stronger one.
  • Three scopes: read (view syncs, mappings, status, operations, issues and records), operate (adds pause, activate, retry and Live Export runs) and readwrite (adds creating, editing and deleting syncs, mappings and Live Exports).
  • Sync tools prefixed sync_ (for example sync_list, sync_create, sync_get_status) and Live Export tools prefixed live_export_.
  • sync_whats_next and live_export_whats_next tell the agent where a setup stands and what to do next.
  • Human-in-the-loop steps: connecting OAuth apps, approving a new or edited sync and approving held deletes always happen in the browser.
  • Connected agents are listed under Settings > MCP, where you can revoke them.

Use cases of Whalesync MCP Server

  • Build a sync from a description: "Create a two-way sync between my Airtable Products table and the Webflow Products collection, and map the matching fields."
  • Monitor health: "Are any of my syncs failing? List the open issues and what caused them."
  • Fix and retry: with operate scope, ask the agent to retry issues or pause a sync while you fix a field.
  • Record checks: "What's the sync state of this record, and is anything waiting in the delete review queue?"
  • Live Exports: have the agent set up a Live Export, pick source tables, set a schedule and trigger a run.

Troubleshooting Whalesync MCP Server

  • 401 or expired authorization: reconnect from your client. If the connection no longer appears under Settings > MCP, it was revoked and reconnecting runs consent again.
  • "Connection request has expired" on the consent page: more than ten minutes passed since the client started the connection. Retry from the client.
  • The sync won't start: new and edited syncs must be reviewed and approved by a person in the Whalesync app. The agent sends you the review link.
  • The agent can't change anything: check which scope you granted. A read connection can only view; reconnect and grant readwrite if you want edits.
  • Rate limits: requests are limited to 120 per minute per user.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is the Whalesync MCP Server official?

Yes. It is run by Whalesync at `https://api.whalesync.com/mcp` and documented at docs.whalesync.com.

2

Do I need a Whalesync API key?

No. The server uses OAuth: you sign in in the browser and approve the access. API keys are not part of the MCP setup.

3

Can the agent start a sync on its own?

No. The agent can build a draft, but a person has to review and approve a sync in the Whalesync app before it runs, the first time and after every edit.

4

Which apps can the agent connect?

The same connectors Whalesync supports. Apps that sign in with OAuth, such as Salesforce and HubSpot, are connected by you in the browser via a link from the agent; apps that accept a pasted token, such as Airtable, Webflow and Notion, can also be connected with a token you give the agent.

5

Does it work with Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code?

Yes. Whalesync documents Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Grok, Cursor and VS Code, and any client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers works.

6

How do I disconnect an agent?

Open **Settings > MCP** in Whalesync and disconnect it. Access is revoked immediately.

7

What is the Whalesync remote MCP server?

The Whalesync remote MCP server is a hosted Model Context Protocol endpoint at https://api.whalesync.com/mcp, so AI assistants can connect to it without installing or running anything locally.

8

How do I connect to the Whalesync MCP server?

Add the endpoint https://api.whalesync.com/mcp to any MCP-compatible client such as Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code. The setup snippets on this page configure each client in one step.

9

Does the Whalesync MCP server require authentication?

Yes. Whalesync uses OAuth: the first time you connect, your MCP client opens a browser window to sign in and authorize access, then reuses the credentials for future sessions.

10

Which transport does the Whalesync MCP server use?

Whalesync exposes a streamable-http endpoint, the transport used by remote MCP servers and supported by all major MCP clients.
