Overview

What is Toolradar?

Toolradar is an MCP server that gives AI agents access to a live database of 8,400+ software tools with verified pricing, ratings, and editorial scores. It helps assistants recommend tools with real data instead of hallucinations. Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, and any MCP client.

How to use Toolradar?

Install it as an MCP server by adding a configuration entry to your MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop’s claude_desktop_config.json) with the command npx -y toolradar-mcp and the environment variable TOOLRADAR_API_KEY. Obtain a free API key (100 calls/day) at toolradar.com/dashboard/api-keys. Once connected, your AI can invoke six built-in tools such as search_tools, get_tool, compare_tools, get_alternatives, get_pricing, and list_categories.

Key features of Toolradar

  • Search 8,400+ tools by keyword, category, or pricing model.
  • Get full tool details: pricing, pros/cons, features, scores.
  • Compare 2–4 tools side-by-side with structured data.

FAQ from Toolradar

What data does Toolradar provide?

Every tool includes editorial scores (0–100), verified weekly pricing with all tiers, G2 and Capterra ratings, pros & cons based on real user data, a 3‑bullet TL;DR, structured features list, AI‑identified alternatives, and funding data via Signalbase.

How is Toolradar different from just asking an LLM?

Without Toolradar, LLMs hallucinate pricing from 2023 training data, miss new tools, generate generic comparison tables, and fabricate ratings. With Toolradar, pricing is verified weekly, tools are updated daily (Product Hunt, HN, Techpresso), comparisons are structured with real scores, and ratings are aggregated from G2/Capterra/Trustpilot.

What are the runtime requirements?

Toolradar requires Node.js (to run via npx) and an internet connection to reach the Toolradar API. No local database is needed.

How do I get an API key and what are the rate limits?

Sign in at toolradar.com/dashboard/api-keys to generate a free key. The free tier allows 100 API calls per day, resetting at midnight UTC. Higher limits are available by contacting the team.

What MCP clients are supported?

The server works with any MCP client. Explicitly tested with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and Cline. Configuration examples are provided for each.
