Square MCP Server by CData is a read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets large language models (LLMs) like Claude Desktop query live Square data using natural language. It wraps the CData JDBC Driver for Square, which exposes Square data as relational SQL models, so no SQL knowledge is required.
Clone the repository, build the JAR with Maven (mvn clean install), install and license the CData JDBC Driver for Square, create a .prp file with your JDBC connection string, and add the server entry to your Claude Desktop config (claude_desktop_config.json). Restart Claude and then ask natural-language questions about your Square data — the server handles the querying automatically.
Yes. This server provides read-only access. For full create, update, delete, and action capabilities with simplified setup, CData offers a paid MCP Server for Square (beta).
You need Java, Maven (for building), the CData JDBC Driver for Square installed and licensed (trial or full key), and a configuration file (`.prp`) with the JDBC URL.
Data remains in Square. The server fetches live data on each query through the JDBC driver; no data is stored locally by the MCP server.
The server uses stdio transport, so it must be started by a client running on the same machine (e.g., Claude Desktop).
After installing and licensing the JDBC driver, use its connection string builder to generate a JDBC URL. Store that URL, along with the driver path and class, in a `.prp` file. Then point the MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop) to the JAR and that `.prp` file.
