Overview

What is Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server?

The Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server is a hosted remote MCP server that lets an AI assistant generate, edit, restyle, rotate and animate pixel art sprites for your game, at 16, 32 or 64 pixels, and save them to your Sprite Fusion library.

The server offers the same operations as the Pixel Art Generator API (generate, edit, style reference, 8 directions and animate), plus access to your saved assets and their tags, your credit balance, and uploads for large input images. The server runs at https://www.spritefusion.com/mcp over Streamable HTTP. Sign-in uses OAuth: when your client connects, a Sprite Fusion page opens in the browser where you sign in and approve the connection, so no API key is needed.

How to use Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server?

You need a Sprite Fusion account with credits for the generation tools. There is nothing to install; point your client at the server URL:

https://www.spritefusion.com/mcp

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http spritefusion https://www.spritefusion.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose spritefusion to sign in through the browser.

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

In Claude's connector settings, add a custom connector with the server URL, then sign in to Sprite Fusion when prompted.

Cursor

Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "spritefusion": {
      "url": "https://www.spritefusion.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Add the server to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "spritefusion": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.spritefusion.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Codex

codex mcp add spritefusion --url https://www.spritefusion.com/mcp
codex mcp login spritefusion

Other clients

Any MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP and OAuth can connect with the URL. If a client cannot do OAuth but can send custom headers, send an API key as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY, and keep it in the client's secret settings rather than a shared or committed config file.

Key features of Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server

  • Generate up to 12 sprites from one prompt at 16, 32 or 64 px.
  • Edit an existing sprite, optionally guided by up to 8 reference images.
  • Match your game's existing style from 1 to 20 reference images.
  • Turn one sprite into 8 directional views for top-down or isometric characters.
  • Animate a sprite from a motion prompt into a pixel-perfect spritesheet.
  • Optional tags on generations, so you can group results by game, character or asset type and find them later.
  • OAuth sign-in with no API key; disconnect an app at any time from Account, API keys, Connected apps.

Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server tools

The server exposes 11 tools in two groups.

Generation (15 credits each): generate_sprites creates up to 12 sprites from a prompt; edit_sprite changes an existing sprite; generate_sprites_in_style creates new sprites that match 1 to 20 reference images; create_8_directions turns one sprite into 8 directional views; animate_sprite animates one sprite from a motion prompt.

Library and account (free): list_assets lists saved assets newest first, optionally filtered by tag; get_asset returns one asset and its file URLs; list_tags and set_asset_tags manage tags; get_credits checks your balance; create_upload returns a private upload URL for a large input image.

Tools that take images accept an asset_id for a sprite already in your library, a data_url for a small local file up to 1 MB, or an upload_id from create_upload for larger files.

Use cases of Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server

  • Prototype a game's cast from your editor: "Generate 8 32px fantasy enemy sprites and tag them with my-roguelike."
  • Keep new art consistent: "Make a set of potion and scroll icons in the style of my existing item sprites."
  • Prepare a top-down character: "Create 8 directions for the knight sprite in my library."
  • Produce animation frames: "Animate the slime sprite with a bouncing idle loop."
  • Organise assets across projects: "List all assets tagged my-roguelike and give me their file URLs."

Troubleshooting Sprite Fusion Pixel Art Generator MCP Server

  • The client asks for authentication: the server uses OAuth. In Claude Code, run /mcp and choose spritefusion; in Codex, run codex mcp login spritefusion.
  • Your client cannot sign in with OAuth: use an API key in the Authorization: Bearer header if the client supports custom headers.
  • An image pasted in chat is not used: chat attachments cannot be passed to tools. Import the sprite into the Pixel Art Generator and ask the AI to find it in your library, or use create_upload for large files.
  • A generation failed: credits are refunded when no sprite is saved, and generations follow the same per-account rate limits as the API.
