Overview

What is PhotoFresco?

PhotoFresco is a browser-based, Photoshop-class image editor. This MCP server lets AI agents edit images in a PhotoFresco window you approve: layers, masks, selections, adjustment layers, previews and PNG/PSD export.

How it works

  • Local stdio MCP server (Node.js 22+, MIT). On connect it opens PhotoFresco in your installed Chrome, Edge or Chromium with a dedicated profile.
  • You approve the connection and each permission in that visible window, and watch every edit.
  • The server reads and writes files only inside the folders you pass with --read and --write.
  • No account or API key is needed for local editing.

Install

From a clone (works today; the MCP SDK is bundled, no npm install):

git clone https://github.com/photofresco/photofresco-agent.git ~/photofresco-agent

Then add the server to your MCP client (see the Config tab), with your own paths. The repository is also a plugin for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Hermes Agent, Antigravity and OpenClaw; see the README. The npm package photofresco follows in mid-October 2026.

Official MCP Registry name: io.github.photofresco/photofresco.

Requirements

  • Node.js 22 or newer
  • Chrome, Edge or Chromium 120+ and a desktop session (the editor window is visible)
