Overview

What is Mcp Interactive?

Mcp Interactive is an interactive MCP server with an Electron interface that prompts users for input via a pop-up command prompt. It is designed to enhance LLM coordination by providing greater control and predictability while reducing billable requests through minimized user interactions within a single task.

How to use Mcp Interactive?

Install the package locally via npm or run it via npx. Configure the MCP server in your client settings with the appropriate command and arguments, including an optional -t timeout (in seconds). The server exposes a single tool, ask_user, which accepts a project name, message (supports Markdown), and optional predefined options.

Key features of Mcp Interactive

  • Electron-based interactive pop-up for user prompts.
  • ask_user tool with support for Markdown and predefined options.
  • Configurable timeout: defaults to 60 seconds, adjustable via -t.
  • Reduces billable requests by consolidating user interactions.
  • Compatible with Trae IDE and Claude for Mac.

Use cases of Mcp Interactive

  • LLM asks the user for clarification when tasks are ambiguous.
  • Final code development confirmation with a work report.
  • Any scenario requiring human decision during an LLM task.

FAQ from Mcp Interactive

Which IDEs are supported?

Tested and confirmed working with Trae IDE and Claude for Mac. Cursor IDE and VSCode with Copilot are currently not supported due to module import limitations in the Electron framework.

What does the ask_user tool do?

It displays a pop-up dialog with a question (with optional Markdown formatting and predefined choices) and waits for an interactive response from the user.

How do I set the timeout for user responses?

Use the --timeout or -t command-line option followed by the number of seconds (e.g., -t 300). If the user does not respond within that time, the server returns "User did not reply: Timeout occurred."

What are the runtime requirements?

Node.js version 16 or higher, and Electron must be properly installed. The project includes a local copy of marked.js for Markdown parsing.

Does the server require any special MCP configuration?

Yes. You must add an entry to the mcpServers object in your client configuration, specifying the command (node or npx) and the relevant arguments, including the path to the server and any timeout parameter.
