About Knowra MCP Server

Search papers on arXiv by research topic and exact announcement date, then read full-text paper briefs. An arXiv paper search and literature search tool for AI agents: search_papers returns titles, authors and abstracts with exact UTC announcement-date filters (coverage from 2025-08-01). get_scout returns a full-text brief of a paper: methods, experimental conditions, key evidence, the authors' stated limitations, figure descriptions and points to verify in the original. get_usage shows the current account's Scout quota and plan. Search works with any MCP client. Scout requires a free Knowra account via OAuth (5 briefs a day); Pro includes 500 a month. Clients without OAuth can use a personal API key as a Bearer token.

Overview

What is Knowra?

Knowra is a remote MCP server that helps you find and screen new arXiv papers from inside your AI assistant.

Tools

  • search_papers: search arXiv by research topic. Returns titles, authors and abstracts, with exact UTC announcement-date filters (coverage from 2025-08-01). Good for a first pass.
  • get_scout: a full-text brief of a paper, covering methods, experimental conditions, key evidence, the authors' stated limitations, figure descriptions and points to verify in the original. Good for deciding which papers deserve a full read.
  • get_usage: the current account's Scout quota and plan.

}
  • Clients with OAuth: add the server, then sign in to Knowra and approve when prompted.
  • Clients without OAuth: create a personal API key in your Knowra account and send it as Authorization: Bearer <your API key>. Keep keys out of URLs, chats and tool arguments.
  • If get_usage succeeds, you're connected.

Notes

  • Coverage is currently arXiv only.
  • Scout helps with screening. Check key conclusions against the original paper.
