About DocuWriter.ai MCP Server

DocuWriter is an AI-powered platform for creating, updating and managing complete, structured documentation for entire codebases. Teams can connect repositories and generate documentation covering architecture, modules, services, classes, functions, dependencies, APIs, diagrams, READMEs, and other technical components. It supports both individual repositories and larger multi-repository systems.

Overview

Hosted documentation tools for AI assistants

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or Codex to the hosted DocuWriter MCP endpoint using Streamable HTTP and OAuth. A DocuWriter account is required; no local server package or manual API token is needed.

The server registers 77 tools covering documentation generation, authorized Spaces and document search, repository update reviews, Autopilot suggestions, teams and webhooks. Clients may filter which tools they expose.

Review documentation against repository changes

  1. Resolve the intended Space using authorized Space discovery.
  2. Use inspect-documentation-update to show branch, affected or selected pages, rationale, maximum credits and available credits. Inspection may read provider APIs but invokes no models, queues no work and reserves no credits.
  3. Obtain explicit user approval of the actual scope and maximum cost before start-documentation-update with the returned quote. Quotes expire after 30 minutes; changed approval facts require inspection again. A quote alone is not consent.
  4. Use get-documentation-update-status for persisted progress, credit usage and the browser review link. Starting analysis does not apply documentation changes.

First/full reviews support page selection; diff reviews reject it. Reusing the same accepted quote returns the same run. Apply/reject decisions, new-page approvals, resuming and ending reviews remain browser actions. Never retry a paid review automatically. Editorial changes use document-edit tools; automatic sync configuration uses Autopilot tools.

Authentication and permissions

OAuth 2.1 sign-in uses your existing DocuWriter account. Tools enforce account permissions and applicable plan/credit requirements. Never infer write permission from current-page context.
