Overview

What is der die das?

A free MCP server for the article (der, die or das) of German nouns, made by Lingviko, an AI tutor that prepares learners for the Goethe, telc and ÖSD German exams. AI assistants often guess German articles wrong. This server gives them dictionary answers instead.

Tools

  • noun_gender: the article of up to 100 nouns per call, with the dictionary form, singular or plural, and compounds (Haustür → die, from Tür).
  • check_articles: finds articles that cannot fit the noun in German text and suggests the fix ("mit der Zug" → dem, "die Kindern" → den). It uses the preposition and the noun's ending to know the case.
  • annotate_text: every noun in a text with its article, for colour-coding a reading text or building word lists.

All tools are read-only. There's no login or API key, and no AI cost.

Data and accuracy

About 90,000 nouns from German Wiktionary (CC BY-SA 4.0), looked up directly rather than guessed by a model. Results: 98.7% of nouns get the right gender on our exam texts. The article checker flags about 0.5 correct nouns per 1,000 on native German text, and catches 89% of planted article errors.

Limits: it doesn't parse verbs, so "Ich sehe der Mann" passes, and it doesn't check adjective endings.
