Overview

What is Claude Memory MCP Server?

Claude Memory MCP Server is a local‑first memory database and continuity journal for MCP clients. It helps AI agents resume work coherently by saving compact continuity artifacts (snapshots, decisions, state records) and returning only the requested level of detail. It uses SQLite on your machine, exposes one MCP tool (continuity) and an equivalent CLI, and has no cloud dependencies.

How to use Claude Memory MCP Server?

Install via npx -y @whenmoon-afk/memory-mcp or add to Claude Desktop’s claude_desktop_config.json. The server exposes a single dispatch tool: call continuity with actions such as save, list, search, get, neighbors, node, related, doctor, bundle, merge, or delete. A mirrored CLI is available via npx @whenmoon-afk/memory-mcp or the global binary claude-memory-mcp. Storage paths can be overridden with environment variables CLAUDE_MEMORY_DATA_DIR and CLAUDE_MEMORY_DB_PATH.

Key features of Claude Memory MCP Server

  • Local‑first SQLite storage with no cloud dependency
  • No telemetry, network calls, or third‑party sharing
  • Five artifact types: snapshot, decision, project_state, bundle, meta_snapshot
  • Linked nodes (project, theme, entity) for navigable graph
  • Progressive disclosure: compact lists first, full detail on request
  • CLI and MCP dispatch tool
