A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation that integrates Todoist with Cursor AI. It allows Cursor AI assistants to retrieve and filter tasks from a Todoist account directly from the coding environment.
Install via Smithery or clone the repository, set the TODOIST_API_TOKEN environment variable, and run python server.py. Then configure Cursor AI’s MCP settings by editing mcp.json with the correct path to the server script and your token. The get_tasks_tool tool is used to retrieve tasks with flexible filtering.
You need Python 3.10 or higher, Poetry for dependency management, and a Todoist account with an API token.
Go to Todoist settings → Integrations → Developer to generate your API token.
Create or edit the file at `C:\Users\<username>\.cursor\mcp.json` (Windows) or the equivalent on Linux/macOS, adding the server command, arguments, and environment variable `TODOIST_API_TOKEN`. After saving, Cursor Settings → MCP should show a green dot when the server is running.
The tool accepts any valid Todoist filter query, such as `"today"`, `"overdue"`, `"due before: May 5"`, `"no date"`, `"recurring"`, `"5 days"`, and priority numbers 1–4.
No. The current version only provides the `get_tasks_tool` for task retrieval. Task creation, completion, deletion, and other features are planned for future releases.
