SharePoint Excel Services MCP Server by CData is a read-only MCP server that allows LLMs like Claude Desktop to query live SharePoint Excel Services data using natural language. It wraps the CData JDBC Driver for SharePoint Excel Services, exposing the data as relational SQL models.
Clone the repository, build with mvn clean install, install and license the CData JDBC Driver for SharePoint Excel Services, configure a connection string using the driver’s utility, create a .prp file with JDBC details, then add the server to your Claude Desktop config file (claude_desktop_config.json) and restart Claude.
Yes. This MCP server supports only SELECT queries. For full read, write, update, delete, and action capabilities, CData offers a separate free beta MCP Server for SharePoint Excel Services.
You need Java to run the server and the CData JDBC Driver for SharePoint Excel Services (install and license separately).
Data stays in your SharePoint Excel Services instance. The server queries it live via the JDBC driver; no data is copied.
The server uses `stdio` transport, so it can only be used with clients running on the same machine.
Authentication is configured in the JDBC connection string (e.g., OAuth, username/password). You test and copy the string from the driver’s Connection String utility into your `.prp` file.
