Frequently asked questions

1

What Google services does MCP Google Workspace Server integrate with?

It integrates with Gmail and Google Calendar, providing tools to query, read, draft, reply to, and archive emails, as well as manage calendar events across multiple accounts.

2

What are the runtime requirements?

Node.js version 20 or higher is required, along with a Google Cloud project that has the Gmail API and Google Calendar API enabled, plus OAuth 2.0 credentials.

3

How does authentication work?

OAuth 2.0 is used. You create a `.gauth.json` file with your Google OAuth credentials, list accounts in `.accounts.json`, then run `npm run authenticate` to complete the OAuth consent flow for each account. Tokens are stored locally.

4

Can I use multiple Google accounts?

Yes, MCP Google Workspace Server supports multiple accounts. Each account is configured in `.accounts.json` with optional metadata and descriptions that the AI assistant can use.

5

Can the server send emails or only create drafts?

Sending emails is disabled by default. The `GMAIL_ALLOW_SENDING` environment variable must be set to `true` to allow `gmail_send` to actually send mail. Draft creation is also disabled by default unless `GMAIL_ALLOW_DRAFTS` is set to `true`.
