MCP Google Workspace Server is a Model Context Protocol server that provides tools for interacting with Gmail and Google Calendar services. It is designed for developers and AI assistants needing programmatic access to Google Workspace data through the MCP protocol.
Install dependencies with npm install, build TypeScript with npm run build, configure OAuth 2.0 credentials in .gauth.json and accounts in .accounts.json, then authenticate with npm run authenticate. Start the server with npm start. Use optional arguments like --gauth-file, --accounts-file, or --credentials-dir to customize paths. Configure Claude Desktop by editing its claude_desktop_config.json with an MCP server entry pointing to the launch script or the published npm package via npx.
It integrates with Gmail and Google Calendar, providing tools to query, read, draft, reply to, and archive emails, as well as manage calendar events across multiple accounts.
Node.js version 20 or higher is required, along with a Google Cloud project that has the Gmail API and Google Calendar API enabled, plus OAuth 2.0 credentials.
OAuth 2.0 is used. You create a `.gauth.json` file with your Google OAuth credentials, list accounts in `.accounts.json`, then run `npm run authenticate` to complete the OAuth consent flow for each account. Tokens are stored locally.
Yes, MCP Google Workspace Server supports multiple accounts. Each account is configured in `.accounts.json` with optional metadata and descriptions that the AI assistant can use.
Sending emails is disabled by default. The `GMAIL_ALLOW_SENDING` environment variable must be set to `true` to allow `gmail_send` to actually send mail. Draft creation is also disabled by default unless `GMAIL_ALLOW_DRAFTS` is set to `true`.
