A thin wrapper around the OpenPyXl Python library that exposes its features as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, allowing Claude and other MCP clients to fetch data from Excel files.
Download the executable from GitHub releases, set executable permissions on macOS, then configure your MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop) to use it as a command-based server. Alternatively, run from source using Python and the OpenPyXl library.

The prebuilt executables have no Python or OpenPyXl dependency. When running from source, you need Python 3, a virtual environment, and the OpenPyXl library installed via `pip install -r requirements.txt`.
All Excel files remain on the user’s local filesystem. The server reads them at the client’s request and does not store or transmit data off‑device.
The server only works with MCP clients that support command‑based servers (e.g., Claude Desktop app, Cursor, Windsurf). It does not support the Claude web browser interface. Windows may show security warnings for the downloaded executable.
It uses the MCP stdio transport (standard input/output). There is no built-in authentication or encryption; security depends on the local client environment.
